X2 is so affordable that a redesigned next-generation X2 is in the works. The 2023 X2 is mechanically similar to the previous generation 2022 X1. The X1 has been redesigned for the 2023 model year, while the next-generation X2 will arrive for the 2024 model year.

Both publications rank the BMW X2 as the third best subcompact luxury SUV. Car and Driver and US News outsold many other models in the small luxury SUV segment, such as Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class, Audi Q3, Cadillac XT4, Jaguar E-PACE, Lexus UX and Land Rover Range Evoque . In its evaluation of the 2023 X2, Car and Driver highlighted its “appealing exterior styling, sweetheart turbo-four engine and nimble chassis.” In its analysis, US News credited the small luxury SUV for its “responsive handling, lively engine and comfortable cabin.”
Given the planned redesign for BMW 2024, there’s a good chance automotive pundits will rank the next-generation model even higher.
