Also new for the 2023 Honda Pilot is the TrailSport trim, an off-road model designed for outdoor adventures. However, the 2023 Ascent doesn’t have an off-road model. Other Subaru SUVs offer off-road versions with Wilderness trim, but not Ascent.

As well as upping the ruggedness factor with its exterior design, the Pilot TrailSport has a number of features. This includes a TrailWatch camera system, an off-road system with trail torque logic, stabilizer bars and 18-inch wheels with inserted spokes.

Additionally, the TrailSport features an off-road optimized suspension, which provides increased ground clearance for riding in challenging terrain. Also, for improved traction, it has an updated i-VTM4 torque vectoring all-wheel drive system.

2023 has a few other advantages over 2023 Ascent. This includes a more spacious interior. Both SUVs seat up to eight people, but the Pilot has a total passenger volume of 158.4 cubic feet, compared to the Ascent’s 153.5 cubic feet. There’s also a lot more storage in the Pilot. It has a maximum cargo capacity of 113.7 cubic feet, while the Ascent only offers up to 75.6 cubic feet. Additionally, the cockpit is more upscale, especially for the higher trims.

On the performance front, the Pilot’s 3.5-liter V-6 engine puts out 285 horsepower. By comparison, the turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine generates 260 horsepower.

In addition, the pilot has a new free maintenance plan. Good for two years or 24,000 miles, it provides free coverage for multi-point inspections, oil changes, fluid top-ups, and tire rotation. However, Ascent does not offer a free maintenance program.

With its complete redesign, the 2023 Honda Pilot has massive punch over the 2023 Subaru Ascent. If you’re choosing between the two midsizes, then the restyling is one thing to keep in mind.
