Most Reliable Car Brands? Mazda Had the Least Recalls of Any Brand in 2022

When researching the most reliable car brands, the data is a great place to start. And when you exclude the low-volume manufacturers, one major auto brand stands out. It wasn’t Honda or Toyota that had the fewest recalls last year. Instead, it was Mazda that saw fewer recalls than any other brand in 2022.

How many recalls does Mazda have in 2022?

Incredibly, Mazda only had one recall in 2022. That alone makes it one of the most reliable auto brands out there. However, looking at more data paints a clearer picture of just how impressive this achievement is.

Other brands with just one swipe include Bugatti, Ferrari and Maserati. All of these brands sell a fraction of Mazda. The only other major brand is Polestar, which only sells one plug-in model. In short, Mazda is the only manufacturer that sells affordable, full-size cars in this class of most reliable car brands.

Even more impressive, this recall came as early as 2022. So far, no 2022 or 2023 Mazda models have been affected by the recall.

What was Mazda’s recall last year?

The 2022 Mazda recall has been for fuel pumps on a number of different models. In all, more than 121,000 vehicles were affected, and dealership fixes were introduced in January of 2022. The problem with the fuel pump is related to the impeller that draws fuel into the engine. This spinning mechanism can fail, causing a loss of power and stalling, resulting in a dangerous situation. However, if we consider that more than 1 million units have been sold since 2018, recalling just 121,000 cars is quite an achievement.

Just two recalls for the 2021-2023 model year make Mazda one of the most reliable auto brands out there

It’s important to remember that although the recall dates back to 2022, it includes vehicles built between 2018 and 2020. For 2021, Mazda is recalling only two models totaling less than 24,000 units. Those were the rear seats that could slide during a crash, and the CX-30’s disable tailgate programs. And for 2022 and 2023 Mazda models, there are no recalls to report. This statistic is surprising, but it makes Mazda one of the most reliable car brands available today.

What causes a vehicle recall?

Recalls are usually in response to a problem that poses a safety threat to drivers and bystanders. Problems like a Mazda fuel pump issue can cause a vehicle to lose power at any time, increasing the likelihood of an accident. The source of the call depends on the nature of the problem. Sometimes automakers issue recalls for an unexpected problem with a particular part. Even the most reliable car brands issue such recalls. In other cases, federal regulators issue recalls based on consumer complaints and research. While the calling process can change, the result is always the same. Manufacturer’s dealers provide recall repairs at no cost to vehicle owners.

Even the most reliable car brands have recalls

Even if you are buying from the most reliable car brands, your vehicle may be subject to a recall. You can check with the manufacturer or the National Transportation Safety Administration to see if your vehicle has been recalled and needs repair. However, if you own a Mazda, you have fewer reasons to worry.
