How Does the Ford F-150 Hybrid Compare to the Toyota Tundra Hybrid?

The world of full size is changing rapidly. Not only are we now getting electric trucks, but the major manufacturers are putting hybrid powertrains in these pickups. Sure, Ram has had its own mild hybrid system for some time, but Ford and Toyota now offer true hybrid drivetrains. So, let’s see how it compares to the 2023 Toyota Tundra Hybrid.

Cost comparison

There is no getting around it. Whether you want a truck or a Ford, you’ll be shelling out a pretty penny. And since neither truck comes standard, you’ll also have to add a few extra costs to get the benefits of this type of powertrain.

F-150. But you will need to choose the bigger cab size. For a hybrid, you should expect an additional cost of around $5,000. This puts the estimated price for the hybrid around $40,000.

The 2023 Toyota Tundra will cost you a bit more than that. That’s because Toyota specified what it calls the i-FORCE Max engine in the truck’s higher trims. To get your hands on a hybrid powertrain, you’ll have to start looking at the Limited Edition. This brings the cost to about $57,000.

Is the Ford F-150 Hybrid better than the Toyota Tundra Hybrid?

Right now, I only have driving experience with the Toyota Tundra Hybrid. I tested this full-size truck, and it’s basically the final version of the model. I found the engine to be more than enough to power the car. It returns some decent fuel economy. With 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, the twin-turbo V6 sounds almost the same as a V8.

Accordingly, the PowerBoost engine makes 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque. Ford claims it can achieve a range of up to 700 miles. For a full-size truck, that’s certainly an impressive range. And if you’re looking to conquer the highway miles, it will probably be appreciated.

When it comes right down to it, the best truck is probably the one that best suits your preferences. As a non-domestic truck, the 2023 Toyota Tundra Hybrid excels. But the F-150 has always been one of the best pickup trucks in the country.

Both trucks offer a hybrid engine

Regardless of whether you go with a Toyota or a Ford, you can get both pickups with a hybrid engine. This is a reflection of how the world of trucks has changed. With modern engine technology, you no longer need a big V8 to move a truck.

Although it’s true to worry about how long a turbocharged engine will last in vehicles like this. The turbo is just another component that can fail, like the electric motor.
