Taste is subjective. However, it’s still a little strange that Consumer Reports and Edmunds are so different about the 2023 Jeep Gladiator pickup. Consumer Reports ranked it last for pickup trucks, but Edmonds ranked the same truck second only to the Pickup Truck. What is happening here?
Which site is better, Consumer Reports or Edmunds?
I often disagree, but usually not much. Like I mentioned, taste is subjective. There is nothing wrong with these two respected posts admiring different pickup trucks. Oddly enough, the 2023 Honda Ridgeline ranked first on Edmunds, and so far, it’s ranked the same on Consumer Reports.
; They hardly share the same segment. Edmunds points to factors such as the Gladiator’s off-road strength and as a tow vehicle. Edmunds also points out the fun factor that only jeeps have, as the only convertible truck on the market. I wouldn’t argue that this makes it a better truck, but it’s undeniably fun.
People love jeeps
I can attest to both arguments as an owner of 11 years. The Jeep Wrangler (or Wrangler-based vehicles such as the Gladiator) isn’t very practical or comfortable. Objectively speaking, it is not very good as a car for everyday use. However, the reason we see so many of these boxes on wheels is this fun factor. Jeeps are irreverent to the rest of the automotive world. They are who they want to be without thinking of competition.
People love jeeps. The Gladiator certainly didn’t prove as popular as the Wrangler, but it still gets a lot of Wrangler love.
Trying to figure out how you feel about jeeps is tough. This is why I write about this topic so much. I feel, at last, that I may discover the right combination of words to make my feelings clear. Until then, the stark differences between consumers’ opinions and Edmond’s views on the Jeep Gladiator should serve as a metaphor. It is either one of the greatest pickup trucks on earth or one of the worst. You choose.
