Will the 2024 Ram Revolution EV Be More Powerful Than Rivian’s Electric Pickup Truck?

A startup called Rivian launched its first electric pickup truck on the market last year. Ford followed with the F-150 Lightning shortly after, and Tesla and Chevrolet both revealed electric pickup models. Ram has watched and learned, and in 2023 it unveiled an electric concept truck that clearly takes inspiration from all of the above. Rivian’s original R1T made headlines when it took off the 1500 TRX with a name. The 2024 Ram 1500 Revolution may be more powerful than the Rivian, but it probably won’t be quite as fast.

How much power can the Ram Revolution make?

Ram has yet to announce horsepower numbers for its Revolution electric truck. But we do know that it will have a motor for each axle, and that the most powerful Stellantis electric motors make 442.5 horsepower each. So, top ram revolution he could up to 885 hp.

“Technical briefing about electric chassis that will be shared by many brands in the future. It is found that their electric motors will range from 94 to 442.5.

For a future electric Ram truck to deliver the full 885 horsepower, it would have to be built around two of Stellantis’ most powerful electric motors. It would also need an electrical system capable of drawing enough voltage from the battery that it could run both motors at full power.

Fortunately, Ram is looking to outperform the 702-horsepower Hellcat-powered TRX with its first flagship electric truck. There’s a good chance it will offer at least one model with its most powerful engine. In addition, it is developing an industry-leading 800-volt charging system for its new truck. This likely translates to being able to draw a lot of power from the battery as well.

We’re expecting an 800-horsepower “Banshee” engine from the 2024 Ram Revolution.

How fast is the Rivian R1T?

MotorTrend time-tested the Rivian R1T from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds. That makes it the fastest truck in the world – and faster than most sports cars. The combination of four-motor torque vectoring and adjustable hydraulic dampers also enables it to corner like a sports sedan.

One secret to the R1T’s speed is its four electric motors. It can fully power all four engines simultaneously, giving it 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, the truck senses wheel rotation and applies power to the wheel with the greatest amount of traction, in real time. This torque vectoring technology helps a bit in the quarter mile but really takes cornering to the next level.

In addition, the Rivian R1T is a mid-size pickup truck. At 7,000 pounds and up it’s much heavier than any other midsize–or internal combustion Ram 1500– thanks to its lithium-ion battery pack. But this is common for the current generation of electric vehicles. With low torque and regenerative engine braking, they wear their weight well.

The Ram 1500 Revolution may tout a little more power than the Rivian R1T. But with one motor per axle, it wouldn’t be able to respond to wheel spin in real time, or vector torque around corners.

Moreover, if a Ram comes to market with a 500-mile range, it will likely have a heavy battery pack that will far outpace the Rivian R1T. This will give it a much lower power-to-weight ratio.

Even after the launch of the Ram 1500 Revolution, the Rivian R1T will likely still be faster off the line. But the heavy Ram with its long range may prove to be much better for a tow truck. Ram is also planning an ultimate range extender—an internal combustion generator to give the truck unlimited range—which makes it.
