TRUCKS

What’s Wrong with the 2023 Jeep Gladiator?

When it comes to midsizes, we’ve got plenty of options in 2023. Most automakers that make trucks also offer a minivan to complement the lineup. But not every truck is equal. And in terms of sales, it is certainly not the most popular. So, is there anything wrong with a jeep truck?

Jeep Gladiator saw its sales decline for 2022

When it comes to sales, the Gladiator actually saw fewer sales in 2022 than it did in 2021. Jeep went from selling 89,712 units to 77,855 units. Meanwhile, other midsize trucks saw sales increase.

, the gladiator is decent enough. It’s basically a Wrangler stretched and a pickup truck bed added to it. Unfortunately, the only bed is five feet long, and the on-road driving experience leaves something to be desired.

There is another problem that this jeep truck faces when it comes to towing. Owners report that this midsize truck feels a bit unstable while towing, as it has one of the best towing capabilities for a 7,700-pound pickup truck.

Of course, as an enthusiast, I have to commend Jeep for continuing to sell this truck with a manual transmission. Although choosing the standard six-speed transmission results in lower towing capacity, next to the Toyota Tacoma, this is the only midsize truck you can get with a manual transmission. And it will most likely be appreciated by those who like to row their gears.

Which 2023 Gladiator is the best?

It’s hard not to ignore, but the Sport S may represent the best value. As a step up from the Sport and Willys Sport, you get some nice features with this model. First, choosing to add side steps can make this vehicle easier to get in and out of.

And if you plan to drive your truck off-road, you can outfit the Jeep Gladiator Sport S with an anti-spin rear differential and all-terrain tires. These features will definitely come in handy if you find yourself in a 4×4 situation.

Another plus is that the Sport S costs almost 3k more than the base Gladiator. So instead of having to shell out over $50,000 to get a new pickup, you’ll spend close to $44,000.

Of course, everyone has unique preferences when it comes to their truck. So the Sport S probably isn’t the all-around high-end gladiator. It’s just a decent place to start your search.
