If you’ve been waiting for a new pickup to arrive here in the States, the answer may come from an unexpected place. Apparently, Kia has plans to introduce the new truck in Australia, and it could be coming to the US. So, what do we all know so far?
Will Kia release a pickup truck?
As a car brand, it’s not known for trucks, but that may change soon. Sure, in the global market, Kia offers some quirky pickups, but none like what’s here in the States.

Of course, it’s hard not to talk about a foreign-brand pickup truck without mentioning the chicken tax. If Kia wants to sell this truck here, it probably needs to find a way to build it in North America. Otherwise, it will face a very high tariff on Mojave.
A Kia truck means more competition
Trucks are very popular in the United States. Personally, I would welcome a Kia pickup truck. Hyundai has already proven that it can build a solid city truck with the Santa Cruz. But it’s just a unibody truck and not as capable as some of the larger things out there.
From the looks of it, it might have a solid rear axle. That should help with things like payload capacity and other things you might want to do in trucks. It may also mean that the Kia truck can compete with other midsize pickups out there.
Will it be an electric Kia truck?
Accordingly, the new Kia truck should be available with an electric drive. Although you will still be able to find a petrol engine if you are not fond of electric vehicles. Kia is one of the auto brands that have committed to electrifying their range. And if you decide to sell a truck in the US, it will likely offer some kind of electric.
Much like the new Kia EV9, this truck looks boxy. Although the details have not been released yet. At least for the US-spec version at this time.
In terms of the midsize truck segment, things are very competitive. General Motors just released the new Canyon, plus Ford is finally giving an update to the Ranger. Even the 2023 Nissan Frontier looks like a midsize pickup truck now that it’s in its third generation.
Kia will have to work hard if it wants to sell a truck in the United States. There were rumors that the Nissan brand could be involved. But who knows if that will happen or not.
