The 2023 has the best chance of catching up with the 2023 Tacoma as more truck buyers head to Colorado for new updates. The Tacoma’s aging may be disadvantageous because it’s been about the same since 2016.

He points out that Tacoma already saw a 6.02 percent decrease in sales compared to 2021, while Colorado received a 22.17 percent increase in sales through 2021. And Tacoma could continue to decline as Colorado grows.

Is Colorado better than Tacoma?

The 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 Toyota Tacoma both have features to consider. For example, the Tacoma is known for being extremely reliable, durable, and has an excellent resale value.

But Colorado has more strength. A standard turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four makes 237 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. The high-output version of this engine makes 310 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque.

The Toyota Tacoma’s standard engine is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder that makes 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque.

While the Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 pounds, the Colorado tops it off with the ability to tow up to 7,700 pounds. This is not a significant shortcoming, but an advantage.

Also, the Colorado uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and cylinder deactivation to reduce fuel consumption. It gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and up to 25 mpg on the highway.

The Tacoma has an old-school six-speed automatic transmission and an optional six-speed manual transmission. It gets 20 mpg EPA in the city and up to 23 mpg highway, so it’s not far behind.

But the Colorado has a longer wheelbase, so it may have a smoother ride. Both trucks have aggressive off-road models, but the Colorado has Multmatic DSSV dampers, and the Tacoma has Fox shock absorbers.

The 2023 Colorado is more modern

Another feature offered by the 2023 Chevy Colorado is a modern interior with updated materials and technologies. It features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with a massive 11.3-inch touchscreen.

Both trucks have a wireless phone charging pad and a 360-degree camera view. However, the Colorado also has lower cams and a hitch. The screen is a bit blurry, so the Colorado might offer more visibility.

Also, the Tacoma and Colorado have plenty of available safety features like blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking. But the Colorado has more standard options across the lineup.

It’s hard to beat Tacoma, but Colorado is trying. It’s more comfortable, it can tow more, it has advanced technology, and real off-road chops to help it narrow the gap.
