The 2022 Ford Explorer Limited Is a Secret Bargain

Did you know there are eight different Explorer trims available? There are many choices to consider and some options may fail. But the Limited trim is a way to tick more different boxes without breaking the bank.

What comes with the 2022 Ford Explorer Limited?

The 2022 Limited is the one that relies on entry-level trims with more luxurious and affordable features. It also gets extra technology and safety features from the ST-Line and Timberline models.

Limited has the standard 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 300PS and 310Nm of torque. It’s a solid start with plenty of power on tap.

You can upgrade to the 2022 Explorer Hybrid for a 3.3-liter V6 engine paired with a battery to deliver 318PS and 322Nm of torque. The slight horsepower increase might be attractive, but it doesn’t improve fuel economy by much.

The gas model gets an EPA estimated 23 mpg in the city and up to 25 on the highway. With the Explorer Hybrid, you get an estimated EPS of 27 mpg in the city and up to 28 mpg on the highway.

Increasing trim levels give you access to the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine with 400PS and 415Nm of torque. You can tow up to 5,300 pounds with the base engine, and the V6 boosts capacity to 5,600 pounds.

How reliable is Explorer 2022?

The Limited 2022 and the other models in the range have an above-average reliability ranking. It earned an 81 out of 100 from JDPower. Scores between 91 and 100 are very good and scores between 81 and 90 are good.

You can expect the average 2022 Explorer to exceed 200,000 miles. If you drive an average of 12,000 miles a year, you can get 15 to 17 years of road service.

It costs about $731 to maintain the Explorer each year. That’s a bit higher than the $650 annual average for other vehicles. But at least the 2022 Explorer is one of the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety’s (IIHS) top safety picks.

There are tons of different Explorer templates available to meet different needs. But if you don’t need the extra horsepower or upgrades like massage seats and automated parking, the Explorer Limited is a great place to start.

It adds a few extra features to increase comfort and convenience for the entire family without exceeding the $50,000 mark.
