These Ford F-150 Lightning Numbers Seem Fudged

Grab your popcorn because one interesting battle between the F-150 Lightning and the gas-powered model rages on. Electric truck owners have taken a swing at ICE owners. Drivers claim they use their trucks for more trucking purposes.

The truck can be considered a better work truck than the models equipped with the internal combustion engine. EV truck owners reportedly use their vehicles to do traditional truck things like tow more than gas-powered truck owners.

A survey with data sharing swears that nearly 74 percent of Lightning owners use their trucks each month for home projects like hauling lumber, gardening supplies, and hardware.

Additionally, 54 percent of owners claim to go on monthly camping trips. But only 51 percent of traditional pickup owners use their rides for monthly home projects, and only 40 percent go camping at least once a month.

The survey included a sample size of 3,500 truck owners. It is unclear how many ICE F-150 models are included against the Lightning models. There are about 20,000 F-150 Lightning trucks on the road compared to 16 million F-150 gas powered trucks.

Also, the survey was conducted before the first six months of the F-150 Lightning being available, and another survey put F-150 gas bed utilization near 70 percent.

While the Lightning is a capable truck and attracts a lot of buyers, it may not do more truck stuff than the regular F-150. In addition, truck use exceeds bed use with towing and off-roading.

Is the F-150 Lightning more capable than the ICE F-150?

Gas-powered F-150 models don’t stack apples upon apples. While the F-150 Lightning is greener, faster and quieter, it can’t tow as much or go as far on a single charge.

When properly equipped, the F-150 Lightning can tow up to 7,700 pounds and carry a payload of up to 2,000 pounds. On a full charge, the wide range model can travel up to 320 miles.

The gas-powered Ford F-150 can tow up to 14,000 pounds and carry a payload of up to 3,325 pounds. On a full tank of fuel, the F-150 can travel up to 550 miles.

The regular F-150 is also more reliable in below-freezing temperatures. Cold weather can cause the F-150 Lightning to lose some of its charge and charge a bit slower. Plus, don’t forget how diameter can easily reduce lightning’s range.

Is the F-150 Lightning a bad truck?

No, it’s an excellent truck to consider. It offers sporty performance, a quiet cabin, can be charged at home, and can do the things traditional trucks do.

In general, truck owners tend to use their rides for truck purposes, and lighting is a capable carrier. But the gas-powered F-150 is a bit more powerful for more demanding projects and longer flights.

Both options are great for camping and have an onboard generator to power campers, homes, and work equipment. But the Lightning is currently sold out, and it might be easier to get hold of the ICE F-150.

We wouldn’t say the Lightning is used in more projects than the traditional F-150, but it’s an effective option for weekend adventures.
