The Rivian Electric Truck Is Faster Than These 6 Supercars

“Drive like a truck” used to be an insult reserved for the slowest cars of all. But then, the all-electric R1T pickup blew the doors off every other truck with a 3.1-second 0-60 time—as tested by MotorTrend. Cuddle some supercars as well. Here are six supercars left eating Rivian dust.

Murcielago Lamborghini

Lamborghini built the Murciélago with a V12 engine to replace the popular Diablo. Ferruccio Lamborghini respected the Spanish fighting bulls so much that he chose them for his sigil. The company later named Murciélago in honor of a very brave bull, who supposedly survived being stabbed 90 times and went on to produce 70 calves. MotorTrend tested the 2010 Lamborghini Murciélago, and the best achievable 0-60 time was 3.2 seconds. That was a hair’s better than Diablo’s (3.4 seconds), but it wasn’t good enough to fend off the execution by the Rivian R1T.

Cadillac CTS-V

The Cadillac CTS-V is a supercar legend, born out of General Motors’ hair-raising scheme to cram a Corvette V8 into a four-door Cadillac. This sedan dominated the drag strips in the mid-2000s, often shocking passers-by who hadn’t seen one up close. MotorTrend put the 2007 Cadillac CTS-V through its paces and found that it could hit 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. It was fine for its day, but not a fast electric pickup truck.

Watch why.

Tesla Roadster (1st generation)

The supercar that put Tesla on the map was the 2008 Roadster. It was based on the Lotus Elise chassis but was also the first all-electric production car with a lithium-ion battery and the first with a range of 200 miles. Despite its light weight and nimble handling, MotorTrend found it hit 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. Again, this wasn’t bad for the era. But to be competitive, the second-generation Tesla Roadster had to cut that time to 1.9 seconds—otherwise the Rivian electric truck would surpass it. Interestingly enough, Tesla doesn’t even have a crossover as fast as the Rivian. MotorTrend found that the 2016 Model X took 3.2 seconds to reach 60 mph, and Edmunds tested the Model Y timed at 3.4 seconds.

Ferrari 360

The mid-engined 360 (also called the F131) ushered in the modern era for Ferrari in 1999: it had an aluminum body and used titanium connecting rods in its 3.6-liter flat-six V8. But Ferrari claimed only a 4.5-second 0-60 mph time. MotorTrend clocked it at 3.8 seconds. Its successor, the Ferrari F430, placed 3.1 seconds in 2004, tying the modern Rivian. The Ferrari 360 currently has an average resale value of $100K, so sign up for a $75K Rivian with us.

Lotus Elise

The Lotus Elise was known as a well-balanced, agile and lightweight supercar. Its weight under 2,000 pounds balances the I4 engine. The company built 35K between 1996 and 2021. MotorTrend found the 2005 model struggling to 60 mph, finally reaching in 4.0 seconds. According to Road & Track, the 2017 Lotus Evora (with a V6 engine but 1,000 pounds heavier) also got 4.0 seconds. Obviously, Lotus and Rivian R1T are two completely different tools, designed for different functions. But if you drive an Elise or Evora, don’t challenge Rivian owners to a drag race.

Aston Martin (almost all of them)

The Rapide S was a four-door Aston Martin sports sedan sold from 2010 to 2020. Sure, it was technically a sedan, but it also came with a 500-hp V12. So it looks like this is going to be a fair fight. MotorTrend found that the Rapide S took 4.5 seconds to reach 60 mph making the Rapide S 1.4 seconds slower than the Rivian, which also has four doors. Maybe Rivian should market its R1T as a sports saloon…with a bed. But the Rivian truck also beats the Aston Martin coupe: the 2013 DB9 achieved 4.1 seconds. The 2019 DBS got 3.7 seconds, and the 2019 Vantage got 3.4 seconds. Only Aston Martin beats Rivian with its limited edition supercars, like the Vulcan.
