Subaru Is Developing a Compact Pickup-But There’s a Catch

She says she’s thinking of a pickup modeled after her iconic Brat Baja from the ’70s and ’80s. They can release their own Ute, but only if they receive enough requests to get one. Oh, and it will only be available in Australia.

Is Subaru really going to limit its new pickup to Australia?

Somehow, we don’t think the automaker will go into development of a new model based solely on “orders.” And we find it odd that with compact truck sales so strong in the US, as exemplified by the Ford Maverick, that they would limit production to just the Australian market. So let’s take the guesswork out of this and say that Subaru should already be developing a successor.

We’ve heard the feedback on the Outback. We’ve heard the demand from the public and Subaru buyers saying they want the Turbo Outback. Tick, it’s here. So we listen, we watch, we read feedback, we go to the forums, we see what customers are looking for and it’s going to be great.” .

Using Subaru’s global platform as the foundation of the truck, the Impreza, Forester, or Outback could be the starting point. So you don’t need to outfit an entire vehicle out of the blue. Let’s say about 75% to 85% of the pickup is there with these models.

“We’re always listening,” says Reid. “We always listen to customers. It’s not ‘What do we think?’ It’s what the customer says, what they’re looking for? We hear (Brumby’s) question all the time and it’s been some time, we’ve been asked all the time. We go around Australia and we’re asked, and we listen.”

okay then. to settle it. Our best bet is to predict a new car or Brat by 2024 or 2025.
