The 3 Least Reliable 2022 Pickup Trucks, According to Consumer Reports

When it comes to reliability studies, pickups don’t always do well. In this latest survey, there are three specific trucks, even among, that prove to be the worst. Here are three less reliable pickups for 2022 that might make you rethink your truck purchase.

Ford F-150 | Ford Media Center

1. Ford F-150 Hybrid

Ford is no stranger to its cars. He praises the Ford Edge, Ford Maverick and Ford Maverick Hybrid in this latest study. However, the Ford F-150 Hybrid is one of the least reliable 2022 pickups.

Reports, even at the bottom of the list.

When earning poor scores on expected reliability, consumers should be aware of potential electrical system problems, power equipment problems, and engine accidents. Consumers have also reported concerns about noise and leakage, along with drive system issues.

2. Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500

Chevrolet happens to be among some of the top-rated brands in this CR reliability survey. But it’s the Trailblazers that get the loud comments, not the popular ones. The ratings are the same as for the Silverado’s cousin, the GMC Sierra 1500.

Usually seen as chubby entertainers, there’s a lot to love about these two trucks. But beware of potential reliability concerns like those reported with previous pickup owners. There are reports of minor engine problems, as well as transmission problems. One of the most common complaints from owners of these pickups was the exhaust, with surveys citing problems with the muffler, pipes, manifold and catalytic converter.

3. Jeep Gladiator

Consumers were ecstatic when Jeep jumped into the truck segment with the Jeep Gladiator. But in Consumer Report 2022 surveys and scoring for predicted reliability, the Gladiator didn’t rate so well.

With an expected reliability score of 21, the Gladiator has more than a few trouble spots. Beware of issues with the steering, suspension, electrical system and drivetrain. According to the study, other problematic areas included noise and leaks.

Take these less reliable pickup truck ratings with a grain of salt

This Consumer Reports study, which is rooted in actual vehicle ownership experiences from member surveys and past model complaints, can be a great guide for new-car buyers. But it’s also worth noting that not all vehicles in a given segment will offer the same experiences.

While these pickups landed at the bottom, that doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t worth a test drive or purchase, for that matter. The goal is to educate consumers so they can ask all the right questions and know exactly what to consider before investing in any new ride.

When it comes to reliability, sedans, hatchbacks, and coupes rank as the most reliable vehicle types, with a survey score of 58. SUVs and vans show up next in line, while pickup trucks show up with a combined score of 39, and full-size trucks score a dismal 30.

However, this is not uncommon. But if you’re in the market for a new truck, these three trucks are considered the least reliable of all trucks in 2022. And they may influence your buying decision in 2023.
