The Tesla Model 2, as the model is likely to be called, could cost less than $25,000, well below the brand’s current budget EV. So, is the Tesla Model 2 going your way soon?

Tesla will likely formalize plans for a new low-cost electric car soon. The latest buzz is about Musk’s intention to build a budget-friendly model at a lower price point than the Model 3. However, he says that electric car maker Elon Musk hasn’t released any new details about the so-called Tesla Model 2.

Part of Tesla’s strategy for mass market dominance in the future will likely include the Tesla Model 2 or a similar low-cost electric car. A cheaper option to the company’s Model 3 could open the door to previously untapped consumer bases. “The desire to own a Tesla is very high. The limiting factor is their ability to pay for a Tesla,” Elon Musk said on this subject.

How much does the new Tesla Model 2 cost?

The Tesla Model 2 will target a starting price of around $25,000, in case the automaker can lower production costs. He says $25,000 has been one of Tesla’s goals for years, but the automaker’s track record suggests it might be a lofty goal.

For example, the $35,000 starting price was the original target for Tesla’s current budget, Model 3. However, Tesla says the new Model 3 starts at about $42,990 for the entry-level rear-wheel drive trim.

When will Model 2 be released?

The Tesla app estimates that the Tesla Model 2 won’t arrive before 2024. Given that it’s a brand new car, it’s not absurd to think that the potential lower-cost option could require years to start sales.

What will the Tesla lineup look like in 2024?

As of now, Tesla will likely continue to sell its four base cars in 2024: the Model S, 3, X, and Y. Moreover, the sharp new Tesla Roadster should hit the roads by the beginning of 2024. Additionally Low-res Cybertruck should also be available.

Still, if the electric automaker can pull it off (and it’s a big if), the lower-cost Model 2 could make it into the lineup. I’ll let you add number 2 to the S, 3, X, and Y lineup. It might be an indication of what Elon Musk thinks about electric cars.
