Should Honda Make a Small Pickup Truck?

It currently produces one of the best mid-size pickup trucks on the market. It has become more popular since the introduction of models such as the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. Maverick proved that there is clearly a market for pickups. Is it time for Honda to make its own minivan?

The nascent pickup truck segment could explode in the next decade thanks to the success of the Ford Maverick nameplate. Americans love pickup SUVs, and they’re falling for the pickup truck’s heels. She claims that the Ford truck is still very popular despite the recent recall. Models like the Maverick are perfect replacements for sedans that come with the utility of a truck box.

Starting at $38,800. It’s significantly more affordable than other midsize pickups in its class, such as the popular Toyota Tacoma. The Honda Ridgeline is 210 inches long, 79 inches wide and 71 inches long.

The 2023 Ford Maverick measures 200 inches long, 73 inches wide and 69 inches tall. Starting at just $22,195. So, there’s plenty of room for Honda to produce a smaller, more affordable truck than the Ridgeline to compete with the Maverick and Santa Cruz.

Ideally, a Honda mini pickup would cost less than $30,000. As for dimensions, the Maverick’s unique proportions are bold, to say the least. There’s no telling whether or not another automaker will produce a pickup truck like Ford’s minivan, but there could be a huge upside if Honda decides to compete in this exciting new segment.

The Honda Ridgeline is unique because of its one-piece design. It has a smoother ride quality than most of its competitors and a more refined cabin. If the Japanese automaker produces a smaller version of the Ridgeline, it could be more upscale than the Maverick and potentially have better ride quality.

Drivers need a Honda minivan because the Honda Ridgeline is quite expensive and big compared to some of its competitors. A smaller pickup truck will appeal to a different audience, similar to the niche market that Blue Oval tapped into with the Maverick.

Imagine a smaller, more affordable Ridgeline with better fuel economy. Honda’s pickup truck can be a huge problem for Ford, Hyundai, and even Toyota because the Honda Ridgeline is polar opposites.

If Honda makes a pickup truck based on the Ridgeline or built on the new Honda CR-V platform, the brand could have a blow on its hands. Since the CR-V has a, that would open up a whole new world of possibilities for a CR-V-based minivan.
