Although this seat belt issue is serious, Honda has recently recalled various models due to ill-designed Takata airbags. The Japanese automaker issued a statement in February for some 2001-2003 Honda and Acura models regarding a possible airbag malfunction. The airbags on these models are over 20 years old, which means they can have a failure rate of 50%.

Fortunately, parts are available for this recall, and owners can take their cars to a local dealership for a repair issue if needed. Affected models of this recall include:

  • 2001-2002 Honda Accord
  • 2001-2002 Honda Civic
  • 2002 Honda CR-V
  • Honda Odyssey 2002
  • 2003 Honda Pilot
  • 2002-2003 Acura 3.2 TL
  • 2003 Acura 3.2CL

Do these recalls mean Honda and Acura aren’t as reliable?

No. Automakers sometimes recall models due to safety concerns. Although these recent recalls are about major safety issues, we wouldn’t say they make Honda vehicles less reliable. It should be noted that since Honda has been proactive in spotting these issues, it can be relied upon when it comes to upholding the reliability and safety of its vehicles.
