Owning the Ford F-150 Hybrid for Two Years Is Disappointing

Oh no, critics have had the F-150 Hybrid for two years and nearly 30,000 miles, but things didn’t end well. When this fuel-efficient big truck came out, it pretty much raised the bar. However, it did not live up to expectations.

It’s supposed to get 24 mpg EPA in the city and up to 25 mpg highway. This is great for a massive pickup truck with plenty of power. However, the team was disappointed.

A hybrid is a newer model, and it’s not uncommon for vehicles to have problems within the first year of production. However, the F-150 Hybrid has caused a few different headaches.

For example, the undercarriage immediately became covered with rust. The rust made it look like a much older vehicle, which could be a cause for concern. But it is said that rust is only cosmetic and does not cause any corrosion or damage.

The F-150 Hybrid features an active air dam that automatically deploys at speeds over 40 mph to reduce drag. This can help improve the truck’s fuel economy.

But while Cars.com had their truck, the active air dam was damaged twice. It costs $1,161 to replace and boosts efficiency by four percent. It was removed the first time and destroyed by debris the second time. Removing it may be more beneficial than replacing it multiple times.

There were a lot of recalls to deal with, too. Some issues, like a driveshaft recall, required replacement parts that had been out of stock for months.

At times, there were noticeable software bugs and connectivity issues. The system will crash and freeze. Also, BlueCruise doesn’t look very refined or polished at first. But these problems are solved by software updates.

Some Cars.com drivers live in the city and don’t like how big it is. It was impossible to park on the street and it was difficult to maneuver in narrow areas. Things were tough even with the help of multiple camera views.

The turning radius is between 23.9 – 25.55 feet, which is quite wide. But the park assist and camera view features make a difference. We found our F-150 Hybrid to be nimble around town.

Also, team members liked the size of the truck. The back seat has plenty of room for passengers, and the truck’s bed has excellent cargo capacity. It has enough power to tow campers, and the onboard generator can power campers.

It is big enough to keep the whole family comfortable. But we can admit that large vehicles take practice to master.

While the F-150 Hybrid is fast, big, capable and comfortable, the Cars.com team wouldn’t buy it again. They were very disappointed with the size, fuel economy and quality.
