Looking for the Best 2022 Full-Size Truck? Decide Between Quality and Appeal

JD Power’s annual list of the best vehicles has been released. As usual, they fall into two categories: the best options for general appeal and the best options for overall quality. In certain segments of vehicles, such as mid-size SUVs, cars like the category have been named best in both categories. However, if you are looking for a higher class, the menus will be quite different, which means that you will have to choose between quality and attractiveness. Spoiler alert, if you prefer quality over cuteness, trucks are the way to go.

What factors determine the attractiveness and quality of vehicles?

Performs the Initial Quality Study (IQS) by surveying new car owners. This study collects data about the problems they may have had with their car during the first six months of ownership. For the sake of accuracy, the sample size includes at least 100 vehicles, vehicles with fewer problems are considered higher quality.

Best overall quality truck of 2022

The high-quality full-size 2022 truck is a truck. Accordingly, its price starts at $34,600 and comes in nine different trims. Engine options include a 2.7-liter turbo four, a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, and even a 3.0-liter turbo diesel.

The smallest engine can make 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, while the 5.3-liter V8 delivers more horsepower at 355 but less torque at 383 lb-ft. As for the 6.2-liter engine, it makes 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there’s a 3.0-liter turbo diesel that matches the torque output of a 6.2-liter V8 but only makes 277 horsepower.

As for the transmission, you can get either an eight- or a 10-speed automatic, depending on your choice of engine. You can also choose between RWD and 4WD with most trims, though a few are available exclusively with all-wheel drive.

Chassis configurations include regular, extended, and crew cab options, which affects the truck’s trunk size. However, the shortest bed is 5’8″, the longest is 8’2″, with a choice of 6’6 in between.

According to him, the advantages of the truck include excellent powertrain options, great handling, and interior quality. However, the ride quality isn’t the best, and some features are limited only to the top. In addition, the diesel engine’s fuel efficiency could be better.

As for the more attractive full-size truck, it’s available starting at $37,090. It lists eight trim options to choose from along with 4WD and Crew Cab body styles. Two models, for example, the Rebel and TRX are available with crew cabs and a 5’7 truck bed, while the rest offer a choice of crew cab and quad cab body styles. Notably, the latter also comes with a larger 6’4 truck bed.

Engine options include a 3.6-liter mild-hybrid V6, two 5.7-liter V8s, one of which is a mild-hybrid option, a 6.2-liter V8, and finally a 3.0-liter diesel V6.

The 3.6-liter V6 can produce 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. As for the two 5.7-liter V8s, they put out 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. However, the mild hybrid option has higher towing capacity than its non-hybrid counterpart.

The most powerful 6.2L V8 engine ever delivers a whopping 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. As for the diesel variant, it’s capable of 260 horsepower along with 480 lb-ft of torque with all options mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Also, most models offer a choice between 2WD and 4WD, with the Tradesman HFE and TRX being the exceptions. The former is only available with two-wheel drive, while the latter can only be used as a four-wheel drive truck.

As for the truck’s highest trim levels, they include a high-quality interior, excellent on- and off-road capabilities, and impressive ride quality. The downsides include its high price and terrible fuel economy.
