Is This Chevrolet’s Ford Bronco Rival?

Ford is too hot, it sells so well that Chevrolet can’t just ignore it. There is money to be made and GM is all for it. So we know it’s coming because GM Design just confirmed it with an Instagram post. The only questions remain when will it come out and where can we get it?

Before delving into the Dylan Schmidt sketch, let’s take a look at some issues of Bronco. Ford’s Bronco sells an average of 100,000 SUVs a year in the United States. It is outselling the Toyota 4Runner and approaching . However, the Wrangler consistently sells over 200,000 units a year, so there’s still a big gap to fill.

“What we’re trying to do at this point is figure out exactly what experiences we want to create to get people into vehicles like this,” said Mike Pevovar, economic design director of electric vehicles and crossovers at Chevrolet. Overall, GM is focusing on smaller, not bigger, as with the GMC Hummer and its offshoots. And Schmidt’s sketch shows a bolder, more playful side of the off-roader. The pickups, and Mavericks pointed GM in that direction. GM said it is looking for pickups and SUVs “under $30,000” for its future.

That doesn’t mean it’s going to ditch pickups and full-size SUVs. Instead, it means the company is opening up new segments to conquer. As most American automakers killed all of their coupes and sedans, it disrupted some segment profit streams. It takes time to stock up on new truck and SUV models.
