Does the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado Duramax Diesel oil burn?
Yes, 2023 consumes oil, but that shouldn’t be a concern. As shown, the Silverado Dumax has normal oil consumption. But this raises debates.
It starts at the factory. The LZo Duramax engine receives an additional quarter of oil during the production process.
Sean Sezemkowski, senior director of Chevrolet Truck Communications, explained that 2023 LZo-powered vehicles ship with an extra quart of oil in the crankcase. Additional oil is only required for the first fill at the factory.
Only the standard amount of oil is used during the first oil change. Technical Service Bulletin #21-NA-272 has been provided to dealerships in case owners raise concerns. In addition, this applies to the diesel engine LM2 Duramax and LZo Duramax.
The leaflet shares an acceptable oil consumption rate for the engines used in the indicated vehicles which is 0.946 (a quart) per 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles). This rate does not apply to vehicles that are being driven aggressively, at high revs, at high speeds, or while being towed.
Driving in these conditions will consume more oil. The price applies only to personal-use vehicles that are under warranty, driven in a non-aggressive manner, at legal speeds, and while unloaded.
Using oil is not a bad thing! It’s an important part of properly maintaining your truck, especially for towing and hauling.
What are the Silverado Duramax upgrades?
The 2023 Chevy Silverado’s engine just got more power. It makes 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, which is up from the 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
New components such as new steel pistons with modified combustion chamber, retuned turbocharger, new fuel injectors, and improved temperature control features are responsible for these improvements.
The Duramax engine gets 24 mpg EPA in the city and up to 29 mpg highway. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Also, it can tow up to 13,300 pounds and carry a payload of up to 1,930 pounds.
You can add an aftermarket oil pan to make things easier. Some keep an extra two quarts of oil, which helps stabilize consumption by having more oil in the crankcase. So burning oil isn’t really a concern for the Silverado unless it’s at an excessive rate.
