The Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel Is an Instant Classic Truck

Building an all-new Jeep was a bold move on the automaker’s part. It was offered with the 3.0-liter turbocharged “ecodiesel” V6 engine developed for the Ram 1500 even bolder. The resulting configuration is the only diesel-powered mid-size pickup truck and a very unique Jeep. I might even call the movie an instant classic, but that’s not necessarily a good thing.

The Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel is already outdated

When reviewing the diesel-powered 2023 Jeep Gladiator, the publication didn’t mince words. “The diesel is not as fast as its gas counterpart,” she admitted. However, the engine is “louder” than the petrol version. In addition, this engine weighs “an additional 500 pounds, and has a reduced maximum drag rating”. Even the EcoDiesel Gladiator’s payload capacity is less than that of the petrol version.

After the twin revolutions of electricity and automation have run their course.

Given that modern hobbyists own horses, and even steam locomotives, I predict that future generations will push to restore internal combustion engines. But doing so will test their determination and ingenuity.

What vehicles will future generations search for and restore? What will spark joy? I think many of today’s Jeeps, especially the Gladiator, will be modern classics in the decades to come.

If you already had an efficient and reliable robotic electric car, which would you choose for your weekend game? Something analog, visceral, messy, and fun. Something to dirty off-road with or drop off the top and take for a cruise. The last few years of internal combustion cars – in relatively good condition and equipped with Apple CarPlay and driver aids – will be especially sought after.

One of the main hurdles is getting fuel. But I expect diesel truck parking to remain a reality for decades to come, as the near-existing fleet continues to operate. It may also take a few generations of electric vehicles to get long-range electric trucking right. Because diesel fuel would be so readily available, diesel classics would be a hot commodity. The Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel is the last timeless square-body pickup truck and, as such, will resonate in eternity.

What will happen to the classic jeeps?

Perhaps a cleaner, safer, and cheaper fleet of automated electric vehicles would make the future that much better. But there have always been some enthusiasts who insist on doing things themselves, even if it means getting their hands dirty with old techniques. Restoring and maintaining classic vehicles like Jeeps is a great way to build important life skills. And you certainly don’t have to navigate your classic writing to take advantage of the benefits of owning it.

Furthermore, the agency revealed that while the agency is targeting a commuter fleet running low on clean energy, it has no interest in chasing conventional cars. This is because their contribution to greenhouse gases is negligible. So, while the Jeep Gladiator may actually have been born out of a relic, I doubt this instant classic is going anywhere.
