Ford Recalls Over 8 Million Vehicles in 2022

When you sell as many cars as you do, it’s easy for things to fall through the cracks. However, with more than 8 million vehicles reported to be recalled last year, Ford’s recalls seem to be spiraling out of control. With 67 individual recalls across the board, Ford leads all brands in both units and total recalls for last year. But why have there been so many Ford recalls in 2022? There are many issues with engine and drivetrain components as well as electrical issues that affect many Ford models. The recall includes cars, trucks and SUVs.

In 2022, two of the most popular SUVs will take part. 2020 to 2023 Ford Escape and 2021 to 2023 Bronco Sport models have been recalled due to a defective fuel injector. Towing models equipped with the 1.5-liter EcoBoost Turbo engine is associated with a potential fire hazard. The problem involves the fuel injectors, which can crack and cause fuel to leak under the hood. If the engine or exhaust is hot enough, the leaking fuel could ignite and start a fire.

The fix for this problem includes updating the engine control computer to detect leaking fuel injectors and to install a drain pipe to allow leaking fuel to safely leave the engine compartment.

The second biggest car of 2022 includes the popular Ford F-150 pickup. Some 2021 and 2022 models came with defective windshield wiper motors. This can cause the wipers to malfunction unexpectedly, resulting in poor visibility and an increased risk of an accident. Anyone with an affected Ford F-150 will receive a replacement windshield wiper motor for free. The notices were posted earlier this month, but you can check your VIN at the dealership to see if your truck needs attention.

Recall Ford 360 camera failure for Super Duty and Lincoln Continental models

There is a problem affecting approximately 300,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles. The 2017-2020 Ford Super Duty and Lincoln Continental models make up this Ford recall. Deteriorating camera lens coatings can result in poor rear visibility. While a surround-view camera is not mandatory, new laws passed in 2018 require that all new vehicles have rear-view cameras. This recall will replace the rear cameras on affected models.

There are several additional Ford recalls, including drive shaft failures in Ford F-150 trucks and fire hazard recalls in the 2015-2017 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models. Overall, nearly 9 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles saw recalls last year. If you own a Ford or Lincoln, check with your local dealer to see if there are any free repairs available for your vehicle.
