Driven: The Bigger 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 Is Better

Running out of passenger space in the Defender is a thing of the past! Seriously, up to eight passengers can enjoy your next adventure. It’s the biggest defender ever and is well-equipped to tackle the wild.

The 2023 is 187.4 inches or approximately 15.62 feet long. It is also 82.9 inches, or 6.91 feet, wide. It’s 13.3 inches longer than the Land Rover Defender 110 but rides on the same platform.

Our model is equipped with standard 20-inch all-weather tires, which is exotic for off-road driving. But they did an excellent job. While climbing over steep muddy slopes and plugging in huge puddles and ruts, you can feel the confident grip.

The Defender 130 is flexible and can fit on smaller trails without any issues. It feels solid, stable and controlled. Slick mud and uneven terrain has never been a challenge. Rough bumps and bumps are easily mitigated for a comfortable experience.

Our model slipped only slightly in larger sections of bovine mud but corrected quickly to maintain composure. Plus, it has plenty of strength to avoid tripping or tripping.

The digital instrument cluster and 11.4-inch touchscreen provide plenty of different views of the camera, how much traction is being sent to each wheel, and the degree of tilt and turn. You can carefully plan every maneuver around narrow obstacles.

Is the Defender 130 comfortable?

The 2023 delivers a smooth and comfortable ride with excellent comfort. It is also an engaging daily driver. The standard P300 engine is a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit that makes 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

You can upgrade to the P400 SE for a 3.6-liter inline-six mild-hybrid engine rated at 395 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. The supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine makes 518 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph.

It delivers smooth shifting shifts with immediate power, but the brakes are a bit soft. They take some time to get used to in traffic. Also, the inside is very quiet. At highway speeds, there is only a small amount of wind noise.

You might notice some heft around steeper curves, but the Defender 130 has direct steering and responsive handling. It has an impressive turning radius, and the longer rear end is easy to move.

The interior is designed with durable, high-quality materials for a luxurious feel. The two-tone leather upholstery and soft-touch surfaces are attractive with a design to match. The suede inserts are soft with the ability to stand up to mud.

Everything you need is within easy reach, but the controls have a slight learning curve. Huge windows provide an enormous amount of vision, and the panoramic multi-pane sunroof has just the right amount of tint to allow light to filter in.

You can choose heated, ventilated and massage seats. In addition, the third row is available with heated seats. An optional center console cooler keeps drinks for the kids for hours, the wireless phone charging pad has a signal booster, and you can opt for four-zone automatic climate control.

The 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 is a serious contender against the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. It’s excellent, comfortable, and capable. But the reduced departure angle and lack of cargo space can be limiting.
