Driven: The 2023 Hyundai Palisade Needs to Change 2 Things

Once you’ve spent some time with the Palisade, it’s easy to see why critics rated it all the way with the Kia Telluride. While there are some quirks and flaws to consider, it’s worth seeing what all the fuss is about! There are only two things that stand out with potential for improvement.

What could the 2023 Hyundai Palisade do better?

The first potential shortfall of 2023 includes cargo space at full capacity. If you have seven to eight passengers, the third row eats up your storage space. Good thing the Palsiade has roof rails for carrying extra cargo!

Standard 3.8-liter V6 rated at 291 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque. It helps the Palisade accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds and increases towing capacity to 5,000 pounds.

But it’s the only option available! Something with less power could result in more affordable trim levels. Plus, what does Palisade do for those who want to go green? It gets EPA-rated 19 mpg in the city and up to 27 mpg on the highway.

Three-row competitors such as the Ford Explorer Hybrid, Kia Sorento Hybrid, and Mazda CX-50 have hybrid options. Plus, Hyundai makes our favorite electric vehicle, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, so a more fuel-efficient powertrain option seems possible.

Reportedly, the Hyundai Ioniq 7 will be the largest electric vehicle available in its class. But those who aren’t ready to go electric may be more comfortable with a hybrid.

Is 2023 Palisade Good for Families?

Yes, despite having little luggage space and only having one engine option, this is a great option to consider. It is a comfortable, sporty and comfortable three-row SUV that prioritizes passenger space.

Even sorting adults can relax in the third row for short periods of time. The first and second rows have plenty of space for adults to enjoy.

There’s plenty of nifty tech, like a silent mode for limiting the speakers to 25 volumes in the front and an intercom system for talking to passengers in the back. If you have new teen drivers, the lane can park and reverse automatically.

In addition, the high-quality interior and smooth ride provide hours of comfort. There is a little wind noise at higher speeds, but it’s easy to tune out. Also, there is almost no body roll around curves, which can limit car sickness.

If the Palisade had a little more headroom behind the third row and a more environmentally friendly engine option, it might be able to lower the Kia Telluride.
