Couple Outsmarts Car Thief Using an Apple Airtag In Their Toyota Camry

It’s always around the country, and it doesn’t seem like it’s slowing down anytime soon. More than 745,000 people have been reported nationwide for 2022, which could be higher by the end of this year. Fortunately, a couple in North Carolina wouldn’t be part of that statistic because they were able to beat the burglars with a very simple device.

Leslie and Antar Mohamed woke up one morning earlier this month and realized their car was missing. Antar Muhammad told WRAL News, “We got up, and I looked outside, and my wife asked, ‘Hey, do you know your car is no longer in the driveway?'” “

in the car along with their wallets, phones and luggage.

Antar told WRAL News, “One hundred bucks for a pack of 4—it’s one of the greatest security systems you can own. As soon as we get a new vehicle or item—backpack, handbag, luggage—I open one up and put one in just for safety precautions.” .

The pair were able to track the stolen items using their iPhones and pinpoint the exact location of the vehicle. Within minutes, the authorities arrived, noted the location of the car, and tracked it down.

Reports are that officers from the Cary Police Department found and recovered the stolen car just before 11 a.m., just two and a half hours after the couple realized it was missing.

Apple Airtags have caused some controversy in the past

Although it’s a cheap and easy way to put a GPS tracker in your car, some unscrupulous individuals have used it to stalk people and invade their privacy. A Texas woman reported that she was notified that an Apple Airtag was traveling with her while driving. She drove to a police station where officers searched the car and found an Airtag taped to it.

Fortunately, Apple has announced that it is taking measures to prevent stalking and invasion of privacy. For example, if you have an iPhone, you’ll get a notification that says, “Airtag has been found moving with you.”

Is it a good idea to use an Apple Airtag as a security device for your car?

Yes. Given that there is no subscription fee, as in other GPS units, to power an Apple Airtag, it’s a good idea to use one in your car. A single Airtag costs $29, and a pack of four costs $100, which is an inexpensive investment to keep your stuff — and your car — safe.

If you use an Airtag in your car, we recommend that you hide it in a safe place that is difficult for a thief to find. That way, if they steal your car and get a notification on their iPhone that there’s an Airtag on board, they can’t find it and throw it away. Worst case, they may end up leaving the car altogether.
