Bad News: The New Toyota Tacoma Could Be Delayed Until 2025

Oh no, people waiting for the new Tacoma might be upset by a new delay. The next generation Tacoma has taken years to take shape, and now things can be put off for months. We may get the 2025 model instead of the new 2024 model.

When will the Toyota Tacoma be redesigned?

Unfortunately, plans for the next-generation Tacoma weren’t as clear. But the industry seems to be tracking updates for the 2024 model year. Now rumors suggest that we should wait for 2025 instead.

The new Tacoma continues to experience significant delays. Production of the current model was expected to end in August 2023, so the new model could enter production by December 2023.

Then deliveries could start arriving by February 2024. But everything is four months behind, which means the current-generation Tacoma should last a little longer. As a result, the new model could go into production in 2024 and 2025.

We also haven’t heard anything about the official unveiling of the new Toyota Tacoma or Toyota 4Runner. Rumor has it that Tacoma will arrive first.

Why is the 2025 Tacoma facing delays?

We may have a new 2025 due to supply chain constraints. The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has shut down factories and caused massive shortages of semiconductor chips.

Other materials such as rubber for tires, seat foam, hard top roof materials, and even a blue Ford oval badge are in short supply. Tyota’s TNGA-F platform plunged into a shortage and created a few different issues.

Every Toyota redesign has been pushed back by a year. Also, the new Tacoma has been frozen for production after receiving its final build and design. Captured in shy shots, the Tacoma may not be the production model.

The Toyota Tundra model can be cut-up welded together as a smaller truck to fit the TNGA-k midsize truck platform. That could mean the next-generation Tacoma still needs to be road tested.

On the plus side, the final production design could be a done deal. Greenlight only needs small cutting work and the unique style of each model.

How much power will the new Tacoma have?

New evidence suggests the 2025 engine could be paired with a dynamic four-wheel-drive hybrid. This should help it compete with the Ford Ranger Hybrid and Jeep Gladiator 4xe, which it is expected to overtake in the market.

Rumors also indicate that a Toyota Tacoma EV is in the works. It will look like the gas powered models but with a unique grille design.

The standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque is likely to be dropped. The 3.6-liter V6 with 276 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque may have some life left as a rugged and reliable unit.

The six-speed automatic and manual transmission options will likely be updated. In addition, the rear end could receive an updated spring suspension like the larger Toyota Tundra.

More information about the 2025 Toyota Tundra may emerge as summer approaches. We will be tracking its development for the latest updates, so stay tuned.
