Audi Activesphere EV: Is It a Coupe or Truck?

It finally released images of its Activesphere EV concept car. It shows Audi’s design direction for future electric cars. While the four-door coupe looks lifted off-road, it can also carry items normally reserved for pickup trucks. So is Audi indicating that its future models will be more like a pickup? lets take alook.

Is the Activesphere EV also meant for off-roading?

In some ways, this coupe/pickup concept replaces vehicles in Audi’s lineup like the Allroad and Sportback, but with more space and versatility. And while it’s clearly a roadster, it hints at more than off-road with sturdy tires and the abundance of cladding you need in the wilderness. Lift can also be adjusted through the use of adaptive air suspension, giving you up to 10 inches of ground clearance.

Inside, the first thing you notice is. The floating dash can be adjusted or moved away from the driver in standalone mode. The Activesphere steering wheel and pedals also disappear with the dash. The head-up display handles speed and other readings. Once the car’s dash disappears, you can see ahead through the grille.

But in what might be the best feature of Activesphere is hidden. Inside the ceiling are four mixed reality glasses. It’s called Audi Dimensions, and there are 3D graphics that give information based on where you look, touch, or gesture. For example, looking at the head of a voice activates acoustic information in the headphones.

The same thing happens when looking at the vents, the climate functions pop up allowing you to monitor and/or control these functions. It allows for augmented reality of the environment you live in, he says, moving outside the Activesphere while still wearing the headset.

The rest of the package is very similar to previous Audi concepts, the Urbansphere. It features a PPE platform, and its dimensions are nearly identical to the next expected later this year. Two Activesphere electric motors produce 436 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque.

The 800-volt batteries are housed in the belly of the tire, providing 100 kWh for more than 375 miles of range. Audi says it can charge from five percent to 80 percent in less than 25 minutes. We should see our first PPE platform EV soon, which the company will be expanding on from now on. And while we probably won’t see this shift to a production model, we’d love to see Audi incorporate its coupe/pickup design into reality.
