The off-road craze has reached its peak, and two of America’s big three automakers have cashed in with vintage-inspired body-on-frame SUVs. Both the old Jeep Wrangler and newcomer Ford Bronco have strong footholds with the off-road community and provide outstanding sales for their respective brands. But the third member of the Detroit triumvirate didn’t respond with its own retro off-roader. According to president Mark Reuss, Chevy fans are unlikely to see a Bronco competitor—at least not swapping the internal combustion engine.
GM president says the Detroit brand won’t go against the Bronco and Wrangler
In an interview with The Drive, Reuss said a traditional off-road Chevrolet is unlikely. He stated some reasons for GM’s hesitation about building an alternative Ford Bronco.

While each has its own appeal, these models don’t directly compete with the Bronco and Wrangler. If you’re looking for a gas-powered, body-on-frame Bronco competitor to Chevy, don’t hold your breath. But with GM’s zeal for electrification, another 4X4 may still be on the horizon. Hope is not lost.
