We got a feel for the massiveness and control of the new Ram 2500 HD Rebel this week. We’re still getting to know this beast, but we’ve already spent hours on the sidewalk and in the mud getting to know it. Check out our first thoughts on driving the 2023 Ram 2500 HD Rebel.
What is the 2023 Ram 2500 HD Rebel?
The 2023 Ram 2500 HD Rebel is an affordable alternative to the range-topping Ram 2500 Power Wagon. It is a huge off-road monster truck that has a lot of capabilities.
And the 12.0-inch infotainment screen is intuitive. Menus are straightforward and easy to customize. In addition, the program is fast! You can adjust your settings in seconds.
3. The diameter is the priority
The 2023 Ram 2500 HD Rebel is designed to make towing easy. With the diesel engine, it can tow up to 14,920 pounds and carry a payload of up to 3,140 pounds. The 6.4-liter gas-powered V8 with 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque can tow up to 16,780 pounds and carry up to 3,140 pounds.
Additionally, you can opt for the available rear air springs to tame extreme loads. Tech tow kits add reverse trailer steering, a cargo view camera, and a 360-degree surround view camera. The telescoping side-view mirrors extend inches wide so you can keep an eye on things, too.
The additional camera plugs into a port on the bumper, and is attached to a 55-foot cord for added visibility. Three images can be displayed on the digital rearview mirror while each feed is available on the infotainment screen.
Also, the digital gauge cluster can be customized to display important stats such as temperature levels, off-road driving stats, and trailer profiles.
4. Ram Rebel HD is huge
People are shocked at the size of the 2023 Ram 2500 HD Rebel. It has a ground clearance of 13.1 inches, so you’ll need to access the optional running boards. It measures 238.8 inches long by 79.5 inches wide. It has a wheelbase of 149 inches and weighs 7,499 lbs.
The interior is huge, with plenty of room for passengers and cargo. The front and back seats have plenty of room for adults. Storage is plentiful thanks to the oversized center console, glove box and bonus compartment above the glove box.
There are two Ram cargo boxes on either side of the 6-foot-4-inch bed for additional lockable storage. Also, bed steps are available.
The height of the entrance can make it more difficult to reach the cab, load cargo, or install child seats. Pets and children may have to be lifted.
5. The 2500 HD Rebel is well built
The 2023 Ram 2500 HD Rebel features a high-quality interior with durable materials. Premium leather upholstery with signature stitching can stand up to mud and dirt. Plus, all-weather rubber flooring is thick and protective.
While the cover’s soft-touch surfaces provide a premium feel, the compartments are well secured for storing tools and rough items. You don’t have to worry about punching holes or scratching any surfaces.
In addition, the automatic climate control system is fast and efficient. Heated seats and steering wheel keep things nice and warm during those cold winter days.
The massive leather seats have tons of adjustment controls and an excellent amount of reinforcement to hold you in place. However, the back cushion could use a little more support.
