3 Most Common Nissan Titan Problems Reported by Hundreds of Real Owners

In terms of full size, the Nissan Titan wasn’t the most popular ever. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t a good pickup. It’s just an indication that people often look to brands like Ford, Ram, and Toyota for their trucks. Still, many people make the choice. And these are three of the most common real-world complaints.

3. The rear axle seals are leaking

Unfortunately, from 2004 until about 2013, Titan suffered from overheating. Due to the lack of ventilation, the rear axle seals can leak. If fluid loss becomes excessive, significant damage can occur to the rear axle and differential bearings. And this is definitely not something you want for your truck.

This problem usually appears within 100,000 miles. To date, more than 140 owners have reported this problem. With this in mind, you should keep an eye on any fluid loss.

2. Premature fuel pump failure

Your truck’s fuel pump is responsible for delivering fuel from the tank to the engine. With a fuel pump failing, a number of issues can arise, and that can spell trouble for your Titan. One big problem that seems to come up is catalytic converter damage.

In modern cars, the catalytic converter is part of the exhaust system. Helps control emissions. If there is a problem with the catalytic converter, your truck can still be driven. But it is not feasible in the long term. Therefore, if you notice that the fuel pump is working, it may damage this important component.

1. Engine and transmission problems due to wear

Well, that’s a twofold problem. Corrosion can be a major problem that trucks face, especially because they tend to stay on the road for a long time. Water can corrode the connector between the engine and transmission harness.

If this happens, not only will you not be able to start your struggle, you may have problems shifting the transmission. There are no reports of RepairPal happening after 2010, but if you own an older Titan, this could affect you. The average mileage when this happens is 115,147, so when your truck hits that milestone, be aware.

Is Nissan discontinuing the Titan?

Unfortunately, it appears to be killing its full-size truck. It’s not entirely clear when the Titan will be discontinued, but since it’s not that great of a seller, it makes sense for the brand to consider the move.

One has to think, though; The new generation Frontier was very popular. Perhaps, if Nissan invests in the Titan, it could see renewed interest from the public. The Titan is the only full-size truck that comes standard with a V8 engine, and it’ll get an array of safety technologies. This is in a world where the Toyota Tundra doesn’t offer a V8 engine as an option.
