You’ve read about all of the 2023 Ford F-150 EV’s key innovations and features. But the cabin usually gets a little vertiginous. It looks more luxurious than previous F-150s, and has been improved over the gas-powered version. But let’s dig deeper and see how it compares to its competitors, the Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Yes, we know those two companies won’t have a similar electric pickup until 2024. But let’s see how much.
Is the interior of the 2023 Ford Lightning the same as the ICE F-150?
First, the interior of the Lightning is very similar to an ICE. But there are a few key differences that should appeal to EV buyers. The biggest difference is the screen, which is almost identical to the Mustang Mach-E. Processing times are fast, and while the default controls aren’t always an improvement over plain old knobs, they’re easy to adjust.

How do the 2023 Ford Lightning trims compare?
The front seats can be ordered with the Max Recline, which can recline the seats 180 degrees to allow for comfortable charging. They do a good job of support, and give a lot of show. The rear seat legroom and headroom are ample. Overall, the Lightning offers better eco-friendliness than the standard F-150.
The mid-range XLT model includes the F-150’s retractable shift lever which allows for a forward sliding tray. It’s a flat surface for food or a laptop. Three 12V DC power outlets, remote start, an overhead console, and a hidden storage compartment in the cargo area are also standard.
Upgrading to a Lariat, while everything is standard with the XLT trim and trim, there are a host of options not available with the lower trims. Memory settings, SYNC 4A with enhanced voice recognition, and a 15-inch display move this trim up
What is the top of the line?
Going to the top of the Platinum tier is a big step up, compared to the $74,474 Lariat. But, of course, it gets upgraded with front and rear center armrests, real wood accents, ample gauge space, and so much more that puts it almost on par with a loaded Ram 1500. But not quite. Even Rivian has the advantage in the cabin department.
For Ford fans, the differences are slight. And even if you’re not a fan of Ford trucks, if you’re looking for an EV pickup, your choices right now are the Lightning and Rivian offerings. The Silverado EV and Ram Rev won’t hit showrooms until 2025. And Rivian costs a lot more with fewer local service centers.
So Ford’s Lightning is ahead of the competition, at least for now.
