Chevy Tahoe and Traverse are great used three-row SUV options

recently released a list of the most used three-row SUVs costing between $15,000 and $20,000, and it was dominated by Chevy. The top three were all Chevy SUVs, and two Chevy models also topped the list. They were the Tahoe and the Traverse. The 2013 model year Tahoe was tied with the 2014 Tahoe for first place overall. The 2016 Traverse finished in third place.

. The 2017 model year of the Traverse also did well enough to earn a spot on the list, but its issues dropped it to 18th.

Overall, the 2016 Traverse and 2013 to 2014 Tahoe are great SUV options. But like any other car, they have their pros and cons, so used car buyers will have to decide for themselves which one is right for them.

The ins and outs of a used 2013 or 2014 Chevy Tahoe

One of the reasons the Tahoe in the 2013 and 2014 model years was so great is because it was at the end of its generation. As a result, they had a good amount of features for the time, and Chevy fixed some of the common problems for the build. That said, being the last model years of a generation came its problems too.

For example, US News wrote that the 2014 Tahoe used “cheap” plastic in the interior. And because these model years are nearly a decade old, their tech features are few and far between when compared to modern Tahoes. For example, Chevy only made rear view cameras and rear parking sensors standard features in the 2014 model year Tahoe.

Other than these issues, the Tahoe in both model years has similar positives. Chevy gave the SUV a 5.3-liter V8 and it got 320 hp. This was a powerful engine and was also relatively efficient. It got the SUV to get 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, for a combined 18 mpg.

Since they’re nearly a decade old, they’ll be relatively cheap. The 2013 Tahoe can be had for around $15,000, while the 2014 Tahoe is priced around $18,000.

Despite the newer model year, the 2016 Traverse can be had for around $16,000, which isn’t much more expensive than the 2013 Tahoe. Since the 2016 Traverse is also newer, it also has a few more tech features than the 2013 or 2014 Tahoe. Chevy began offering 4G LTE and a WiFi hotspot for the 2016 model year and owners may.

Overall, the Traverse was a solid three-row SUV smaller than the Tahoe. It had a maximum seating capacity of eight compared to the Tahoe’s nine. That said, the Traverse’s cabin was quiet and good-looking, and the Chevy SUV also received good safety and reliability scores upon its release. Its main problem was its engine, as it only had 281bhp and this gave it weak acceleration.
