2 Key Performance Features Killed by the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek

Subaru has only been with us for a decade, yet it’s already getting a third redesign. It doesn’t have any groundbreaking new powertrain options, and its exterior is only slightly distinguishable from the 2023 model. Even so, you can expect some minor improvements to keep the Crosstrek fresh and help it compete against its rivals.

Unfortunately for some Crosstrek fans, years of redesign usually mean that some features are dropped. In fact, two of the Subaru Crosstrek’s most popular options are no longer available.

, the Crosstrek still has the same naturally aspirated powertrain options. Base and Premium trims have a 152-hp four-cylinder engine, while Sport and Limited models come with a larger 182-hp four-cylinder.

Both engines come standard with all-wheel drive and continuously variable transmission, now with supposedly quieter operations. With the exception of the Base trim, you’ll also get shifters for the CVT. The Crosstrek still has about 8.7 inches of ground clearance, as well as hill descent control and riding modes for the AWD system.

Subaru says the 2024 Crosstrek has an updated “rugged” look, apparently resulting in more black body trim. The teaser photos also show us some bright yellow accents (standard on the Sport trim) and standard roof rails for each model. The Sport and Limited trims have 18-inch wheels, while the other two have 17-inch wheels. Both wheel sets include all-season tires.

The Crosstrek also has a wider stance than last year, though its interior dimensions are largely unchanged. The 2024 model has a slightly lower maximum cargo capacity, now just under 55 cubic feet. However, Subaru has mentioned that the Crosstrek has more supportive front seat cushions and this year.

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek seats five riders on cloth or leather-upholstered seats with orange stitching on the topmost trim. The standard infotainment system includes dual 7-inch touchscreens. The lower one is used to configure audio and climate presets, while smartphone integration can be configured via the upper screen.

You can also get your Crosstrek with a singular 11.6-inch touchscreen, which adds wireless smartphone integration. The standard safety suite includes both forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. Lane Change Assist with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitor can be added to any trim level other than the base model.

Steering-responsive LED headlights are standard across the range. A power sunroof and Harman Kardon sound system can be added via option packs. Pricing for the Subaru Crosstrek starts at $24,995, and the top-of-the-line Limited is available starting at $32,190.

Say goodbye to manual transmission

reports that you can no longer get a Crosstrek with a six-speed manual transmission. This gearbox was previously the standard option for Base and Premium trims.

While it may have been the more engaging drivetrain choice, it also made the Crosstrek thirstier. The manual-equipped Subaru Crosstrek gets 25 mpg combined city/highway, while models with the CVT earn up to 29 mpg combined.

What about the Subaru Crosstrek Plug-In Hybrid?

Subaru will not release an updated version of the Crosstrek PHEV alongside the gas-only model. It features a four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors to produce a combined 148hp. Earns 35 mpg in hybrid mode, plus delivers 17 miles of pure electric driving.

Even without these two powertrain improvements, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek should remain a good choice for light adventure or efficient daily driving. You’ll be able to get a Crosstrek Base and Premium this spring, while the two higher-end trims will be released in the summer.
