12 Great Link Building Tools That Are Essential To Your Success

Link building strategies, along with SEO tools, have certainly changed over the years.

Since the old automated link builders that automatically placed content like the KontentMachine or GSA’s search engine ranking tool, modern tools have moved on to manual search and outreach platforms.

The tools my colleagues and I use for link building today are more similar to those used in public relations (PR) rather than link building. However, there are still link building tools out there that aren’t going anywhere.

They can be divided into four categories:

  • search link.
  • exploration and outreach.
  • reporting.
  • AI tools.

Emerging technologies powered by AI can make link building easier.

Link search tools

Link research is vital to knowing what kind of sites you should be approaching. This includes setting quality standards, site categories, authority metrics, and more.

majestic And Ahrefs They are two research tools that provide large databases and powerful reports.

I’ve included both sites because I keep seeing that each has data that the other doesn’t.

You may find some links to your competitors’ sites on Majestic that are not listed in Ahrefs and vice versa.

Together, these tools can be used to create a comprehensive list of sites for analysis. As with many SEO tools, pricing depends on how many features your team needs.

1. Majestic

  • Pricing: $49.99 per month for a single user for the “Lite” package. $99.99 per month for the “Pro” package, which they recommend to SEO agencies and consultants.
  • Payment options: per month or get a discount for an annual subscription.

Here are some recommendations about its use and reports that should affect your link building.

  • Threads: This data can be used to determine the types of sites you should link from. Consider running this report on the cookies of the top-ranking sites, then look for sites that fit into similar categories.
  • Domain names: Use this to assess how many unique domains you should focus on building for your site. This also provides a look at the trust/citation flow distribution (number of domains by trust/citation flow).

2. Ahrefs

  • Pricing: $99 per month with only one user for the “Lite” plan. $199 per month for the Standard plan.
  • Payment options: per month or get a discount for an annual subscription.

Unlike Majestic, Ahrefs has some reports that are easy to run within the tool. It definitely costs more, but if you want more data, Ahrefs is the right choice.

Here are reports for use in Ahrefs on Majestic:

  • Pages > Best Links: Two useful applications of this report are:
    • Determine which content is most relevant to your competitors to influence your content strategies.
    • Decide what type of sites will link to the content you will be producing.
  • Pages > Best by Link Growth: This is a “trend” report that provides what content has been generating links over the past 30 days. Find content that receives a fast number of links here and create more powerful content.

Prospecting and outreach tools

Finding highly relevant sites that might link to your content is the most painful part of link building.

You can build a large list of sites and group outreach to save time, but when evaluating your link building success on links earned per hour and the quality of those links, it’s best to approach prospecting manually or in a semi-automated fashion.

I will order five tools, beach boxAnd BuzzSumoAnd Hunter.ioAnd brightlocalAnd Harrow.

These tools can be used for the most popular link building strategies.

3. Pitchbox

  • Pricing: Averages $500+ per month.
  • Payment options: Prices are based on an individual tour with Pitchbox.

Pitchbox is one of the pricier tools on the market compared to email tools like MailChimp, but the integrated search helps reduce the time needed to qualify sites.

  • Pricing: $99 per month for the “Pro” package. $179 per month for the Plus package. There is a free, abbreviated version with limited searches per month.
  • Payment options: There is also a free version with limited features.

This is an excellent list building tool for bloggers, influencers, and authors. Of all the miners on the list, BuzzSumo has the best filtering options.

You can use the tool for many purposes, but as far as link building is concerned, these are two effective use cases:

  • Select authors: The Find Content and Influencers sections provide lists of authors/influencers that can be searched by keywords in the content they have shared or produced. One great use for this is to look through the Most Engaged report and find influencers who have gotten over 2,000 shares of their content, and then reach out to them to share yours. This can result in a lot of natural links.
  • Identify participants/backlinks: The second use goes a layer deeper than the first, and finds those who have shared the content. Pull up a list of share or link backend websites by content, then create similar but better content.

Reporting tools

While many of the tools in the previous section have built-in reporting functionality, I found that they lacked custom reports or the ability to link to ranking performance.

These tools solve this problem; AgencyAnalytics And sword.

8. Analytics Agency

  • Pricing: $12 per month per campaign. $18 per month per campaign for custom reporting features.

Agency Analytics automatically populates the dashboard with data from Moz and Majestic and correlates that data with important performance metrics, such as ranking and organic traffic.

Qualified traffic that converts into leads or sales is the purpose of link building and SEO efforts, so reports need to make a connection between them.
