It’s no secret that Ford’s mid-size Ford Ranger has been a hit in terms of sales. During the second quarter of 2022, Ranger lost nearly half of the segment share. And this is definitely not ideal for the blue oval. In fact, Ford’s smallest truck, the Maverick, is currently beating its bigger brother when it comes to sales. Will something be enough to make consumers buy this midsize truck again?
Will the United States get the Ford Ranger Raptor?
If you were hoping the Raptor would turn on the Ranger, you’re in luck. The Blue Oval has plans to bring a stronger ranger to the United States. As a smaller truck, it certainly won’t be as capable, but that’s not really the point. It will be a mid-size truck with legitimate off-road capability and a more rugged look.
Available in other markets, not sold here in the United States. And it’s hard not to see it becoming a popular mid-size truck. Sure, Blue Oval hopes it can help revitalize some interest in this car. Perhaps he is the guard that people have been waiting for.
The Ford Ranger Raptor will join Ford’s Raptor line of vehicles, which currently includes the F-150 and Bronco. So, it will be interesting to see if it lives up to the name.
The Ranger Raptor should have more power
In terms of power, it is expected to come with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine. This 3-liter engine is likely to make 392 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. This means that it will have the same powertrain as the Ford Bronco Ranger.
Accordingly, it will also boast standard all-wheel drive, locking front and rear differentials, and a stiffer suspension. If you plan to drive this mid-size truck off-road, this is probably good news. Even if you have to pay a lot more than a standard Ranger.
Could a Raptor nameplate boost Ranger sales?
Incoming reports show that Ranger sales have declined in the United States. In 2020 Ford managed to move more than 100,000 units, and in 2022 that number has dropped to just under 60,000. But, there are some factors to consider with these numbers.
Ford put the Ranger on the back burner in order to keep up with the Bronco’s orders, as both cars were built in the same place. Additionally, Blue Oval was not immune to supply chain issues.
Add to that the fact that a new generation is coming to the United States; It makes sense that sales have taken a hit. Hopefully, with the arrival of the Ranger Raptor, we’ll see more of these midsize trucks on the street.
This pickup may have ditched some of the traditional truck features, but it still looks like a good enough vehicle. And who doesn’t love an off-road truck in a small package?
