What Were the 5 Most Popular Trucks of 2022?

The market continues to grow. In 2022, about 20% of all new vehicles sold are trucks and last year they were trucks. No. 1: Ford F-Series

We are not surprised at all. For several decades, Ford F-Series trucks, specifically the F-150, have held the top sales position. why? They do truck stuff very well, but they come in a dizzying array of trims that can satisfy almost any buyer’s needs.

No. 2: Chevrolet Silverado

It’s second only to the Ford F-150 in terms of sales figures, but when it comes to capacity, price, and other factors, it’s hard to pick a favorite. You can still get Chevy’s 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower, but now you can order a turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower.

Chevy sold 570,639 Silverados in 2022. It now has a more refined cabin, yet it can still be ridden or tow up to 13,300 pounds with the optional diesel engine.

No. 3: The Ram 1500

Ram took a gamble years ago to outfit all of its trucks with independent rear suspension. This trick makes the trucks ride smoother than other full-size trucks, and it pays off in the mud, too. But then Ram also upgraded its interiors, and trim, to make them look like luxury trucks.

These trucks stick to the old-school, but mighty, 5.7-liter V8 that now comes with a 48-volt hybrid booster that helps with instant torque. Ram sold 563,676 trucks in 2022.

No. 4: GMC Sierra

Add Sierra and Silverado sales, and GM sells more trucks than Ford. Having two branding, and hatches helps the Sierra be the more luxurious of the two GM trucks. You get all of the Silverado’s capabilities, including monster engines and a turbo four, as well as Denali luxury packages that make this truck more like an Escalade with a bed.

GMC sold 253,016 Sierra models in the 2022 model year. Look for the new model that will be released in late 2023 as the 2024 model year to offer more technology, and possibly a hybrid version.

No. 5: Toyota Tacoma

The only surprise about this is that no more were sold. The Tacoma is getting a little long in the tooth, though. The last time it saw an update was 2016, and many are expecting a new Toyota Tacoma for the 2024 model year. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a premium truck that’s just the right size for the truck stuff most of us want.

Toyota sold 238,806 vehicles in 2022. Many of them were upgraded off-roaders, but the standard truck still gets a lot done.
